I use magazine cover commercial-style lighting that erases years of texture and focuses the viewer’s attention on you and your personality; not on the drama of the photo. When I create a striking portrait, I want the viewer to say, “what a remarkable person!”; not, “what a cool photo!”
Individual portraits are my thing. That’s what originally turned me on about photography – the sense of character I get from a great expression. This fascination comes more from an interest in people, rather than photography.
I’ve come to understand that my purpose in life revolves around understanding and accepting others. That’s what I find most rewarding. It’s an ideal motivator for getting better and better at allowing people a comfortable space to be deeply themselves and show their real personality.
