I love to shoot quirky, personal, real photos of people.
I am open and accepting –> I’m friendly with people and I am perpetually surprised by how much I have in common with others.
I really miss my firepit and talking/singing/guitar playing around the campfire with my people.
I am most inspired and excited about life when I can be completely myself around others.
Dr Seuss’ wise words are very meaningful to me now:
“ Be who you are and say what you feel.
Because those that mind, don’t matter
And those that matter, don’t mind.”
I would like readers to learn something about me because I think you need to know your photographer and get along with them well to produce the best portraits together. I can’t find a better way of drawing out your real personality in images than for us to get to know each other. ….. and it’s more fun when we’re not strangers.
I have made a conscious effort to combine my professional and personal goals, so that what I do makes me happy: Doing something meaningful; creating something beautiful; connection and involvement with good people.
My big goals in life are mostly about relationships – my interest in people and my love for people.
One day, I will be a savant at relating to people.
Photography is this remarkable vehicle for me where I can relate very directly with people. When I get to know someone better, I can capture them with my camera, just being themselves. Over and over again, I’ve been thrilled and honoured to meet new people who share who they are with me and allow me to photograph and portray something I admire about them.

So, what am I like to work with?
I’ve asked a few clients to share their experience:

I was searching photographers for my acting headshots. I wanted someone easy going, professional and smart! Someone who could see me and know how to capture me.
Jay had really awesome shots on his website. I saw that eyes were a big focus of Jay’s and I loved that. Rates were reasonable.
I was treated like a queen. Both Jay and his assistant praised me and that was a huge confidence booster! Without it my photos would have never turned out the way they did!
He will make you feel comfortable and is up for anything! He sees the beauty in you and will capture it no matter what the circumstance.
Professional. Smart. Knowledgeable. Truthful. Playful. Creative. Trusting. Giving. All around an amazing experience!

We booked a family session at Studio J. We all loved the website photos…we wanted something unique as well!
Jay was great! He was professional and really exceeded our expectations. He was timely and fun to work with.
When we saw the photos, we were speechless….and that’s a hard thing to do to our family!
We highly recommend Studio J, not only for Jay’s professionalism, but his great desire to get the ultimate shot. At one point, he was soaking wet up to his waist on a cool, fall day, to get a picture that turned out perfect! Jay went above and beyond what we had expected and we all had a great time! Thanks again Jay!

We contacted Studio J after seeing family portraits that our friends had Jay do and we were blown away and instantly wondered if he did wedding photography.
It was important to us that there would be relational trust involved. That we would feel natural. That the photos would capture our personalities and specific “moments’ that occurred that would twig the minds’ memories for years to come.
Jay was so approachable and friendly and really took our desires seriously. He made such personalized ideas for our photo shoot. He really felt more like a friend and we instantly knew we could trust him.
We were treated sooooooooooooo well! So conscientiously cared for. There was honest communication throughout and so much fun. Each photo session was a memory in itself…an experience to remember as part of our journey towards the altar.
When we saw our photos, we were bursting with “wow” and “thanks”. We were so struck by the honest expressions captured….and realizing so many of the photos we had no idea Jay had even been there – he was so stealth like and so it was so surprising and delightful to see what he captured!
I have full confidence in Jay that if you’re looking for an artistic yet authentic portrayal of who you are, captured in a photo, then you can’t find anyone more thoroughly satisfying to work with!
Jay, we could not be more pleased! You have given us above and beyond what we would have dared to hope for in engagement portraits and wedding photography. You made each experience comfortable, meaningful, fun, and memorable and the results are outstanding! Thank you soooooooooo much!
