Nicole Hand

I look forward to the day when I learn Nicole is taking her bassoon to play professionally in a symphony orchestra. I do expect that to happen. Nicole thought it would be fun to run her portrait session as a modeling portfolio style shoot.

I think her images illustrate an important aspect of portrait sessions that I always want people to know. This is about advice for looking good; for the camera or for anything. What matters more than anything else is attitude! Faking warmth, mirth, connection, sex appeal is hard to do. If you adopt those states of mind though, it shows. Your expressions and body language naturally radiate your emotions and thoughts, without having to think of how to do it.

In my world, the mannequin-like disinterest and coldness often seen in high fashion photography is boring and unattractive. Physically beautiful people can be unattractive; it’s about attitude.

So what kind of attitude does Nicole have? Fun, relaxed, friendly, serene, sexy, sophisticated, contemplative, …. take a look and see what you think.

    Jay,
I really love the angles that you are using here! The last image is my favorite, though. It is soo rich and the expression is beautiful.

Oh, thank you Gerri. Nicole and I decided we would go for elegant and simple with black and red in that one.
