Hi, I´m Jay Parson, a photographer in Waterloo,
Ontario and this is my online portfolio and a
journal of my professional and personal life.
Please take a look around to get a feel for my
photography style and to learn a bit about me
and the people I create images with.
In less than 3 minutes after my arrival, Anne-Sophie presents me with 2 pictures she drew and coloured for me. My brows rise in appreciation. Julie and Jean-Francois have earned my instant respect with their mad parenting skills. This brilliant suggestion (to make some pictures – a gift – for me) created an instant friendly connection between Anne-Sophie and her new photographer. …… and when big sister trusts someone new, little brother follows her lead.
So much of my work is about observing people and I get a real charge out of watching a family where the children are obviously comfortable, safe and confident in their own space. I know a lot of work and thought go into creating a home life like that for kids and I always admire it. Here are Julie, Jean-Francois, Anne-Sophie and Étienne.
These 3 have fun together. I need 2 hands to count the favourite places and activities for Nicholas in this beautiful home (…and I want to know how do you keep it so beautiful with a 16 month old child?). Shawn and Andrea are very relaxed and natural and their attitude shows in how secure and at ease Nicholas is.
I arrive at my friends’ place on a Sunday and Rebecca invites me in to this old home where they have made (literally and figuratively) a sanctuary of warmth, comfort and good energy. Young Maya is keenly aware of energy and emotions and she responds to them, so no faking it around her! …. and there is no faking or pretense going on here.
I feel my own emotions being tugged as I watch this family being together and we talk about life, parenting philosophy, motivation, travel, wine, work and enjoyment.
After studying and working in human development for years, I expect Rebecca would have a sophisticated understanding and knowledge of attitudes, motivation, learning and emotional openness. What I see is not just an awareness or knowledge though. They are actually living it. They are a close, connected family and they’re happy together. Alain and Rebecca radiate their pride in Maya. Things take 2nd or 3rd place to relationships here.
If you start life as someone special – and you’re surrounded with love, wisdom and a deep, abiding belief that you are a wonderful creature – where does that lead? . … I am so looking forward to seeing where it leads Maya. Early bets in my book are on Maya developing a sense of easy self-assurance –> something I admire in both Alain and Rebecca.
Rebecca and Alain, thank you very much for inviting me to see and capture you just being yourselves. It’s moving to see your attitude and priorities about life, your warm hearted approach and how personable you both are. Here are some of my favourites from your session:
